Therapists
A team of two registered nurses and two nursing auxiliaries are based at the school. The nurses are responsible for the administration of medicine, nursing interventions, the organisation of medical officer and consultant clinics and the duties undertaken by the auxiliary staff. We provide support, advice and training to parents and staff for interventions. We provide health promotion in school to children.
Several physiotherapists are based at John Jamieson. Each physiotherapist is responsible for a number of pupils and takes each one for timetabled sessions. The physiotherapists run hydrotherapy sessions for groups of pupils throughout the week.
Many of our pupils benefit from speech therapy sessions, delivered either on an individual basis or in small groups. Electronic communication aids, communication books and signing are among the strategies used to improve pupils' skills. Physiotherapists, Occupational and Speech and Language therapists work closely with education staff to provide for pupils' physical and educational needs. They also liaise with parents to give advice about equipment and therapy programmes.
