Primary School

The Primary Department aims to provide an appropriate broad and balanced curriculum based on the National Curriculum programmes of study, differentiated to meet the individual needs of the pupils.

Pupils' physical, social and emotional needs are carefully considered and opportunities to improve self-help and independence skills are built into the curriculum.

Computers are widely used within the department. For some pupils they are an essential method of assessing the curriculum and recording work. There are well equipped rooms for art and food technology and pupils are encouraged to make regular use of the library.

Each pupil has an individual education plan. Targets are set and progress is regularly assessed and recorded. As pupils mature they are encouraged to comment on their work, look at ways in which it could be improved and set goals for the future.

Links with other schools have been established for pupils, giving them an opportunity for inclusive experiences with their mainstream peers.
