Little Woodhouse Hall visit to Thackray Medical Museum20 Jun 2017Little Woodhouse Hall visit to Thackray Medical MuseumMonday 12th June 2017 - There was a LWH trip to Thackray Medical Museum. One of the young people is currently studying Medicine through time as part of her GCSE course so this was a fantastic opportunity for her and the others to explore the development of medicine over the centuries. The young people found the development of surgery exhibit very informative it showed how pain relief, antiseptics and blood transfusions have transformed surgery. There is a new exhibit on the physical and psychological effects of war, it explored shell shock in WW1 which later came to be understood as PTSD. There were real accounts from serving soldiers who had experienced recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and they too had PTSD following their experiences of war.
