Summer activities weeks
1st August – 12th August 2016
Week 1:
Monday 1st August:
Today was our first day and so we introduced our theme “The Rainforest Olympics” by creating a rainforest Diorama. We produced a fantastic rainforest complete with clay creatures, just like the BBC Olympic trailer!

Tuesday 2nd August:
In the morning we began our challenge to produce the flags of all the countries attending this Olympics, hopefully to go all the way around the Learning Zone – we still have a way to go!

In the afternoon Andrew from the Discovery Centre brought some Olympian and Brazilian artefacts.
One of the most unusual was a finger guard from a Canadian Wheelchair Rugby player used in the London Olympics signed by all the players.
He also managed to source a doll in traditional Brazilian costume which some of the children would have liked to take home with them!

Wednesday 3rd August:
Today saw our annual visit from the Artbugs Company.
We made some beautiful stained glass effect pictures on an Olympic theme and some lino prints, similarly very effective.

Thursday 4th August:
This morning saw us deco patching several small creatures and Olympic athletes’ kit (in miniature of course!). This is a very soothing and therapeutic activity which many people commented on during the morning.
Thursday afternoon was one of our favourite sessions – drumming! People always comment on what fun it is and how noisy it can be – several passers-by were attracted by our musical offerings and came to see what we were doing!

Friday 5th August:
Friday is Baking Day and so we chose Spicy Rainforest Cookies which went down a treat with our bakers, yum yum!
