High School
The High School caters for pupils between eleven and sixteen years of age, who have a wide range of special educational needs.
There are established links with a number of High Schools, Community Groups and other Specialist Inclusive Learning Centres. These contacts promote collaborative working and enhance curricular provision.
The Department’s aims are to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, enabling pupils to access relevant National Curriculum programmes of study, whilst giving them the opportunity to work on prioritised areas of development.Although the National Curriculum provides the basis for study throughout the High School, the individual needs of pupils are carefully considered and monitored.
Individual pathways to learning are carefully implemented.
Schemes of work are differentiated and designed to meet individual or group needs. Through such programmes of work pupils are encouraged to fulfil their potential and develop confidence, self-esteem and a wide range of key skills.
At Key Stage 4, the students embark upon externally accredited courses in most subject areas, which are commensurate with individual ability. These include GCSE, Entry Level Certificates and AQA units.
